Tick season has arrived

Australian vets predict a very bad tick season this year. They are  urging pet owners to be vigilant and take precautions as well as check their pets on a daily basis.

To check your pets run your hands over them to feel for anything unusual. If you find a tick it is important not to disturb its body and to try and grab the tick by its head, at the point of insertion in the skin. Remove it using a tick remover (a fork like device that slides either side of the tick without touching the body of the tick).

Some of the symptoms of paralysis tick poisoning are:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Vomiting or dry retching
  • Excessive salivation
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Change to bark
  • Coughing
  • Noisy panting
  • Difficulty swallowing
